About KentMusic

KentMusic has a loyal following with participants returning each year from all over the United States as well as from abroad. Returning participants and newcomers alike enjoy a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Enrollment is limited to ensure balanced groups and ample coaching. Players may come as individuals or as pre-formed quartets. Advance preparation is absolutely essential.

A long and successful history. Begun in 1989 at Kent School in Kent, Connecticut, KentMusic is a continuation of the program the Manhattan String Quartet instituted so successfully at Music Mountain in Falls Village, Connecticut in 1981. In 2006, KentMusic moved to the outstanding facilities at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY.

The Colgate University campus, set in the rolling hills of the Chenango Valley in central New York State, is a nationally known center of intellectual achievement. This beautiful setting offers ideal rehearsal, concert, lodging and dining facilities for the KentMusic program as well as walking trails and athletic facilities. The Glimmerglass Opera and Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown are less than an hour away. The closest airports are Syracuse (1 hour) and Albany (2 hours). Hamilton is a scenic 4-5 hour drive from New York City or Boston.

KentMusic offers experienced string players the opportunity to spend six gratifying days intensively studying major works from the string quartet repertoire. Participants receive high level coaching from world-class performing musicians, attend lectures and concerts by the faculty artists and have ample time for informal quartet readings and socializing.
